I just moved to Portland, Oregon earlier this July to work in the visual effects department on Laika’s newest animated feature called The Boxtrolls (laika.com).
Though I’ve yet to post anything about my visual effects work, it has played an important role in my art practice as I continue to transforming moving images in to static sculptures and vice verca. I have been in the visual effects industry along side my studio practice for three years now and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with such an amazing company as Laika who makes thought-provoking and groundbreaking family-oriented movies. They combine stop-frame puppet animation with computer graphics and compositing in order to achieve a look that harkens back to some great animators like Karel Zeman and Jan Svankmajer while also looking fresh and somewhat uncanny.
Art updates on their way! Hi Portland!
